On the Art of Hairstyling:
Hairstyling is a true passion of mine. Like any passion in life, when it becomes part of you, every day is creative, enjoyable and artistic.
Most Important Trait of a Stylist
The ability to listen. If I didn’t listen to my clients I would be blindly implementing my own ideas. A good hairstylist listens to and interprets the client’s desires, creating a unique style tailored just for them.
Stylist Tip:
To fix any stubborn cowlicks in the bangs, remember that pressure is key. While drying, apply a small amount of pressure with your finger to the area of concern in the direction you want the hair to lay. When this technique is mastered cowlicks will be tamed from then on.
Why Hairstyling
It has always been my dream to build a company to make the world a better place. I firmly believe that when you give someone a new personalized hairstyle, it makes them that much more confident about who they are as a person and what they have to offer. When people like that are running around, the world can’t help but become a better place right?
Creative Influence
I came from the business world. After years of wearing a suit and tie to work every day, I wanted to come up with something new. I pulled from both the business casual and the artsy worlds, to come up with the style of “trendy business.” This combines the fashion forward aspects of the art world with the conservative mindset of the business man. Voilà! “Trendy Business!”

“Love of beauty is taste. The creation of beauty is art.”—Ralph Waldo Emerson. I sincerely believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful and to be the best version of themselves.
Creative Influence:
Nature is one of by biggest influences. I love the colors that can be found in nature and the curves of drama. I am also inspired by theatre and the influence it has on hair trends, whether it’s fantasy or reality, on stage or screen.
Favorite Paul Mitchell Product
Awapuhi HydroCream Whip-BOOM! I love it because of its versatility from fine, straight hair to course, curly hair and everything in between! It’s excellent for healthy volume, style hold, and thirsty curls! What more could you ask for in a product? It works for everyone; and did I mention it smells divine!
Stylist Tip:
Don’t be afraid! You would be surprised with the outcome if you tried something different.

On the Art of Photography:
Photography is an overwhelming passion of mine which I live for every day. To create beauty in what is real, to produce a conundrum of euphoria, to be overwhelmed by the kindred spirit you will find within my images, this is what is.
Creative Influence:
I am constantly inspired by the plethora of magazines, blogs and the everyday bustle that surrounds me visually.
Most Important Tool:
My eyes, several film cameras, wireless remote shutters and flashes.
Favorite Paul Mitchell Product:
Spray Wax!
Favorite Photographer:
I’ve always been a fan of Richard Avedon. I feel in love with not only his style, but in the way his portraits convey the inner soul of the person he’s photographing.
Photographer Tip:
Never follow the crowd, find your style and stick to it.

On the Art of Hairstyling:
To me, the art of hairstyling is playing on emotions to tell a story whether it be for a fashion show or for every day. The art is also an accessory that adds to the overall details of the story that is being told. It compliments, not overshadows.
Creative Influence
I am influenced by the people around me everyday. I am fortunate enough to work with such a unique mix of personalities that help me see different facets of everyday life.
Favorite Paul Mitchell Product:
Spray Wax! I love this product because it works wonders with shorter, choppy, textured hair which I adore. It’s in an aerosol form, so it allows the user to use a little or a lot. It doesn’t make the hair stiff, so even throughout the day, you are able to restyle your hair.
Stylist Tip:
Take what feels comfortable and tweak it by experimenting with color or texture—nothing is permanent!

Many of my guests ask me if I can come home with them and be their personal hairdresser and do their hair every morning. No, we show you, the client, how to recreate what we do in the salon. You become your own personal hairdresser at home.

The art of hairstyling has come so far! When you know the history of the hair styling world, it helps build the fundamental structures that are needed to create strong and beautiful hair! Knowing this history gives me the skill and know-how to give you that personalized look that will make you look and feel fantastic! Because as we all know- when you look good, you feel good about yourself and who you are!
Favorite Paul Mitchell Product:
Spray Wax!
Stylist Tip:
When you’re detangling your hair after a shower, don’t use a brush! Get a big wide-toothed nylon comb and comb it out from the bottom up. Otherwise you’re just ripping hair out.

Design is the place where art and reason meet. To be memorable is what I call success.
Creative Influence:
I am inspired by history, textiles, and patterns found in nature and man-made objects. I love structure and minimalism yet love abundance which is the opposite spectrum. I prefer to walk a line between the two.
Favorite Paul Mitchell Product
My greatest joy in design comes from combining the mediums of fashion, graphic design, art and technology.

I believe that hair, in itself, should be an expression of who you are and how you perceive yourself. I always try and couture a perfect cut, color, and style for all my clients so that they comfortable with how they look and who they are.
Creative Influence
My mother has been my biggest influence growing up. Seeing my mother work as stylist for as long as I can even remember and seeing how she could make a client feel so much better about themselves through her hairstyles was just incredible to me! She had that natural ability to brighten people’s day just by doing their hair, and doing that for people is what I strive for as a stylist!
Favorite Paul Mitchell Product
I love the Super Skinny Serum! It is great to put in your air wet and use as a thermal protector when you blow dry and straighten your hair. It also adds tremendous shine and helps those keep those pesky “fly aways” in line.
Stylist Tip
To all my clients with color treated hair: to keep your shine, freshness, and vibrancy to your hair, try and keep up on your retouches, ideally every 6-8 weeks. At home, I would recommend getting a color treated shampoo and conditioner; our Color Line shampoo and conditioner would be perfect for this! You can also wash your hair with cooler water to make the color’s vibrancy last for a longer before it starts to fade.
